His family was evicted in the early 70s, and were moved first to Primrose Park. He was an avid sportsman, with rugby being his first love, but always enjoying a challenge in other arenas. Memories of McBrides Lane include playing a vast array of sports in the sandy field at the end of the street, now known as Oxford Square. Here he lived in a cottage with his family of nine - four brothers, four sisters, and his parents Mugamat Saeed Mustapha & Jawayrah Mustapha (nee Solomons). Most of his memories are centred on his home at 12 McBrides Lane - the tiny, single-car lane which leads off 2nd Avenue. He's passionate about reconnecting with those who were called Claremont their homes before the apartheid evictions and has countless stories to tell of the area he lived in.
